17 Humanitarian workers, including hygiene promotion and field officers, of the French International Non Governmental Organisation ŅAction Contre la Faim – ACFÓ, were massacred at point blank range by government security forces. The execution took place at the office of ACF in Muttur, the victims were wearing ACF tee-shirts.

Forty persons killed in shell attack fired by Sri Lanka Army on Church. Family members experienced extreme difficulty removing their bodies for burial as the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Army prevented them from having access.

51 schoolgirls were killed and more than 100 wounded when Sri Lankan Kfir jets bombed a children's home compound in Mullaitivu district in North of Sri Lanka while they were attending a ten-day residential course on first aid.
The students killed were from Mullaitivu District and Kilinochchi District.
Thayalini, last named, died of her wounds on 28.09.06, in Vavuniya Hospital.
The ten-day programme was organised by the Mullaitivu Schools Principals Association and the Kandavalai Schools Principals Association. |

It was on the fourth morning of the programme at 7am, in broad daylight, when the Air Lanka Air Force deliberately showered the area with bombs.
Four members of staff were also killed in the bombing.
Soon after this bombing the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), and UNICEF personnel, visited the spot and confirmed that it is the location of a childrenÕs home and not a military installation as claimed by the Sri Lanka Government. |
